Update Your Voter Information
Address Change
You are required to register using your residential address, since it determines which candidates and issues appear on your ballot. However, you may choose to receive election mail at any valid mailing address such as a P.O. box, personal mailbox, college mailbox, or a military or out-of-state address. All election-related materials, including your ballot, will be sent to the mailing address you designate.
Residential or mailing address changes made within the State of Florida can be made any of the following ways:
- by updating your information online at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov
- by phone at (941) 741-3823
- by completing a Florida Voter Registration Application
If you are moving to a residential address outside the state of Florida, you must register to vote in your new state. To ensure your Manatee County voter registration is canceled, please complete the Removal of Voter’s Name form, then print and mail or deliver it to us.
Name Change
If your name has changed, you can update your voter registration record in one of the following ways:
- Complete a Florida Voter Registration Application, sign it, and mail or deliver it in person to the supervisor of elections office.
- Update your information online at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov
Political Party Change
Florida has closed primaries, which means you must be registered with a political party to vote in that party’s Primary Election. If you prefer not to select a political party, check the ‘NONE’ or ‘No Party Affiliation’ box on the Voter Registration Application. You may change your party affiliation at any time, but the change must be made at least 29 days before a Primary Election for it to apply to that election.
All registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, may vote on issues and nonpartisan races, such as school board and judicial elections. If all candidates in a race belong to the same party and the Primary Election winner will have no opposition in the General Election, all eligible voters may vote in the Primary Election for that race. This is known as a Universal Primary.
In a General Election, you may vote for any candidate, regardless of your party affiliation.
If you would like to change your political party affiliation, you can update your voter registration record in the following ways:
- by updating your information online at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov
- by completing a Florida Voter Registration Application that should be signed and mailed or delivered in-person to the supervisor of elections office
Signature Update
Some people’s signatures change over time, so it is important that we have your current signature on file. When you sign a Vote-by-Mail ballot certificate envelope or candidate and initiative petitions, we compare your signature to the one on record.
If your signature or identifying mark has changed, you must update it using a Florida Voter Registration Application. You can complete the online form and print it, or pick up a printed application at our office or public libraries. Signature updates can be made at any time, but they must be received before Vote-by-Mail ballots are canvassed to be accepted for an election. Please mail or hand-deliver your updated signature to the supervisor of elections office.
Replacement Voter Information Card
To receive a replacement Voter Information Card, you may submit an online request at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov, complete a Florida Voter Registration Application, or provide a signed, written request to the supervisor of elections office.
Registration Cancellation
If you no longer wish to be a registered voter with Manatee County, please complete a Removal of Voter’s Name form and mail or deliver it to the supervisor of elections office.
